Boiler installation made simple from Samsian Ltd

Whitefriars Wharf Tonbridge

Samsian Ltd were recently called to a failed Alpha CB28x heating boiler, installed aproximately 10yrs ago, fitted in a property located on the Whitefriars Wharf development, Tonbridge.

As the boiler was beyond economical repair, mainly due to lack of maintenance the customer asked us for a quotation to replace. We obliged & the customer instructed us to go ahead based on our very competitive quotation.

The difficulty of this particular installation was the unusual flue arrangement. The twin flue system was located in the ceiling void during the construction phase. However, no access had been provided for inspection or maintenance of any kind.

We over come this by installing a new boiler and flue system, routing the flue through and adjacent room saving the need to remove ceilings. The new flue will be boxed in with appropriate inspection hatches fitted to meet the current regulations concerning Flues in Voids.

Pipework to the existing boiler was also concealed during construction phase which also proved to be a challenge, however we connected to all pipework without the need to expose the pipework beyond a small 150mm2 hole.

Scaled heat exchanger

Scale build up in domestic condensing combination boiler hot water heat exchangers can seriously reduce efficiency & flow of hot water through the boiler. In severe cases the water will stop flowing altogether or the boiler will not function resulting in no hot water.

The example below shows a domestic hot water heat exchanger with and without scale.

Buying a new home?

Make sure that your new home is gas safe

Homebuyers cannot always be sure when the gas appliances in their new home were last safety checked and serviced.

Ask your vendor for an annual gas safety record which shows that a Gas Safe registered engineer has checked the gas appliances.

If your vendor cannot supply an up to date annual gas safety record, you should get a Gas Safe registered engineer to check the gas appliances before you move in. This check should include the gas boiler, oven, hob and gas fires. The registered engineer should give the vendor a gas safety record which they should handover to you before you move in.

Better Gas Safe than sorry. Poorly maintained or badly fitted gas appliances can put you at risk from gas leaks, explosions, fires and carbon monoxide poisoning.
